Day 2: No personal vehicles

So, part of the reason for starting this blog now was to document my 30 day break from using my vehicles. This is a completely voluntary decision; it's not like I got a DUI or I'm under suspension. I just wanted to know what it would be like to not have a car for 30 days. Unfortunately for my two vehicles, a Toyota Tacoma and a Volkswagen Jetta, they will accumulate even more dust than they normally do. I will make it up them in a month. I promise.

I normally carpool to work with two friends; one is currently on a research cruise and the other is just returning to work after 30 days of paternity leave. I figured this would be a good time to attempt this. I'm going to use one of our company's vanpools only because my normal carpool meeting place is more than twice as far away. The vanpool meets at West Marine on 17th avenue; this is only a mile or so from my house.

Monday was the first time I've used the vanpool. Not that it's anything fancy or complicated; I had just never gotten around to using it. We leave for work at 7:30 and in the afternoon, 5:30. These are my normal work hours anyway so I haven't had to make any schedule adjustments.

Van Pool #1: You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious.

This post is already a day late; I'll talk more about the vanpool later in the week.
